Pie Stand Unveiling

Well folks, the stand is finished and it’s finally time to unveil Dale’s Fried Pies’ mobile pie stand.  For those of you in the area, please join us for the stand unveiling party on Thurday, August 9th.  Details are here on our Facebook page. We hope to be at the Farmer’s Market by the end of August (hopefully earlier) and will be available for private events even earlier than that (fried pie midnight snack at your wedding, anyone?).

Almost There!

We are so close to officially launching Dale’s Fried Pies!  The stand is finished, thanks to my husband Shawn and his father, Dennis, who built the thing from scratch.  It’s so wonderful having a husband and father-in-law who not only support my dreams, but over the course of a weekend helped one to  become a physical reality.  I’ve been trying out new pie variations, and DANG, some of them are delicious.  Once we get a few more ducks in this row and the pie stand is ready to unleash itself unto Knoxville, y’all will be the first to know!

Thank You!

I want to send out a big, hearty thank you to everyone for their kind words of encouragement and generous donations as I move forward.  Things are moving along, and I’m confident that the pie stand will be operational before summer ends.

We’ll begin construction on the stand this weekend, and thanks to your support, I’ve been able to order an ice chest stool (to store ice for herbal lemonade), a sweet director’s chair covering, an astroturf doormat and pie bags!

If you wish to donate, check out my wish list and click the donate button on the right.  If you like, you can specify which item you’d like your donation to fund or partially fund.

THANK YOU

Pimping My Pie Stand

Slowly but surely I’m hatching a plan to unleash my fried pies across the great land of Knoxville, Tennessee.  Check back for updates about upcoming events and ways you can help launch Dale’s Fried Pies.

Thanks to the encouragement and support of some dear friends, plans are in action for the construction of my fried pie stand, and with any luck I’ll be launching it later this summer.  Now that we’re gathering materials and construction will soon be under way, I’m enjoying dreaming about all the goodies I’d love to pimp my pie stand,

A few friends have encouraged me to a Kickstarter campaign, but I’ve decided not to because almost everyone I know has Kickstarter fatigue, and also because it will eventually be a for-profit (hopefully) business rather than a community, artistic or charitable endeavor, which are the kinds of projects for which I feel Kickstarter is really appropriate. However, I’m not one to turn away anyone who wants to offer support, so when a friend suggested I post a wish list of items I’d love for my pie stand, I thought I’d oblige, as it sounded like a fun way to start thinking about how I’d like the pie stand to look, and a nice way to give folks who may want to contribute the chance to support by funding concrete items instead of a general idea.

Of course, the best support is kind words of encouragement, so feel free to leave some of those!  Also, if you’re a culinary dreamer, please visit the Suggest a Flavor page and leave a comment with an idea for new pie flavors you think you’d like to eat.

We’re having a little backyard gathering today (to celebrate our day off as much as our nation’s independence, if we’re being honest with ourselves), and I thought it only fitting to whip up some red, white and blue pies!  I colored the dough with food coloring and the filling consists of strawberries, cream cheese and blueberries.  Happy Fourth of July!

Food trucks are pricey, as is buying a non-food truck and retrofitting it to serve as a functional and legal food truck.  I plan to do the latter, because the specific needs of a fried pie truck are pretty basic and most commercial food trucks will have far more amenities than I’ll need.

Until I can afford to take on a truck, I’m going to be building a mobile pie stand to sell pies at private events, Farmer’s Markets and festivals.  I’m envisioning a larger version of this little beauty from Lowe’s, which I found via Apartment Therapy:

Yesterday I shared this newly created website with my friends from college and am blown away that several of them have chosen to donate without me even pestering them for money! In the event you would like to make a donation using the button on the right, current donations will go to supplies for building this stand and to rent a commercial kitchen to prepare and store the pies.

Thank you Laura, Jessica, Kate, Cristina, Bridgette, Lila, Dorna and Dave!
